AQUA DIVERS

AQUARIUS DIVE CLUB NEWSLETTER

AUGUST 2009

NEWS FROM THE AUGUST MEETING:

Gil gave a run down of his diving trip with Floyd to Ocean Cove.  They love to go spear fishing and they had a stupendous time.  He phrased it as, “so many fish; it was like shooting ducks in a barrel.”

We got a report on the Customer Appreciation Day.  Everyone that attended had a relaxing Sunday in the pool and great food once again. I’m sorry for any confusion as to the drawings, but they were for new members to the dive club not for present members.

The Channel  Island trip was a success.  Good dives considering the hurricane going on out by Hawaii; which brought big rollers into us.  The divers on the other side of the boat were easy going, a lot of photographers with very expensive cameras and they were very friendly.  Throughout our group we saw Electric Rays, large Sheepshead, Bat Rays, and large Lobsters. Steven and Gil had the opportunity to get quite a few dives in on their double tank tech equipment.

CRAWDAD DIVE WEEKEND AND DETAILS:

We talked about the upcoming Crawdad dive on  August 29 & 30.  We will be camping at Goose Meadows.   Make your own reservations on line at RESERVEAMERICA.com.  The NEWS ALERT  is that the price of campgrounds is going up, so if you have not made your reservation yet, do it ASAP or you will be paying a lot more.

Thank you to Keith and Jeanne for going up to Donner and talking to the camp host.  In this way we are pretty certain to have the large campground spot for our crawdad event.  Keith said he is going back up again this weekend to talk to him again and be sure nothing has changed.

If you want to go and you are not a paid up club member, the cost of dinner and breakfast will be $5.00 each meal per person.

If you haven’t participated in this event before please stop by the shop and pick up an informational flyer.

We sent a sign up sheet around the table for people to select an item to bring in conjunction to the dinner and breakfast.  There again; if you are attending this event I would appreciate it if you come to the shop and sign up for something to bring to compliment the dinner, appetizers, or breakfast.

In the past I have certainly appreciated the people that have helped pitch in to help with the dinner and breakfast.  It is not only a lot of work to put it all together beforehand, but a lot of work to prepare all the food.  The way I look at it; is that it should be a participation of dive club members to make it more fun.  That is what makes it enjoyable; the jokes, the comments, the laughter, the stories of the days dives.  So, thank you in advance!!

And I know I’m a complainer, but please no dogs running loose in the kitchen.  Not only does it create dust, but when we are running around with hot food/ hot water; a dog is nothing you want to trip over.  Having them on a leash is fine.  Having them under control is fine.  I am not opposed to them being there, just be courteous.

The next thing we brought to everyone’s attention is that Carl has been working hard on our website and now you can look on there for the calendars of the dive club, open water classes, and trips.  The dive club newsletter is also on there, so if you don’t want to retrieve it from your e-mail or don’t receive it through your e-mail you can read it there.  Thank you Carl for all your assistance on this, we appreciate it.
