News from the September meeting

The Donner Lake crawdad dive weekend is over for another year.  It is a lot of work to dive for those little guys, but lots of fun trying to be faster than they are.

Thank you to everyone for helping Steven & myself with preparing the dinner and breakfast.  Thank you for everyone that signed up for a food item and following through with bringing it.  It worked out fine and everyone had plenty of food.  Thank you to everyone that helped us unload and load the big red trailer with all the equipment that we haul up there for this event.

Thank you to Keith for going up early and acquiring the camp site for the big red trailer.  And for taking the time to go up early and talk to the camp host to let him know what we were doing and what we needed. And thank you for prepping the crawdad cage to capture those crawdads for us.

The next thing we talked about was the annual Poker Navigation Run.  We hold the Poker Run, then the hoola hoop buoyancy clinic.  This year Steven will be doing a drysuit course, night dive course on Saturday.  On Sunday the navigation course will take place.

BAJA TRIP – JANUARY 2009

We talked about the Baja trip in January 2009.  We held the meeting on August 30th and finalized the plans.  Steven, myself, Sarah & LeRoy will leave around January 2nd  .  We will spend a couple of days in the San Diego area sight seeing and wait for Scott to join us around January 5th, or 6th.  We will head on down into Baja the day after Scott gets there.  Our destination is south of Loreto in the Escondido Bay area.  This trip is a long trip because it takes three days to drive down and three days to drive back – minimum.  It is a dry camp, so we have to take all of our own commodities and necessities.  We have a couple of people thinking about flying down to Loreto and we will pick them up at the airport.  Then they can dive with us for a few days.  We will not be coming back until the last week of January.

ANNUAL UNDERWATER PUMPKIN CARVING CONTEST

The underwater pumpkin carving contest will be held on October 12th.  It will start at 2:00pm at the pool.  Aqua Divers supplies the pumpkins and prizes and air tanks.  Bring your dive gear or let Joyce know what you need.  We will also have our standard potluck dinner. Therefore, bring whatever you want on the barbeque and a small side dish.

OPEN WATER CLASS DIVES

We have an open water class going to Tahoe on October 4th & 5th.

And another one going to Monterey on October 18th & 19th.

PRESENTATION AT SEPTEMBER MEETING

Our presentation was a DVD that Divers Alert Network (DAN) produced and sent to us titled, I May Be Bent…Now What?

After our presentation, we talked quite a bit about the courses that DAN has available.  We have asked Clyde Smith; whom is a DAN Instructor, to come to our next Continued Educational Orientation evening to see if any of you are interested in signing up for any of those courses talked about on the DVD. He will have prices and materials available.
