| | AQUA DIVERS AQUARIUS DIVE CLUB NEWSLETTER | APRIL 2008 | | | NEWS FROM THE APRIL MEETING: | | | We talked about the under water Easter egg hunt and raw egg relay. We had a fantastic turn out, thank you to all that could come. For those that couldn’t make it, the divers geared up and got in the pool, covered their masks with aluminum foil and we had “rules” this year to dive by. There were three winning eggs to be found on the bottom of the pool. One with a black alligator in it, one with a blue bunny in it, and an egg that had a purple top with a smiley face on it. |
| THE WINNERS OF THE EASTER EGG HUNT WERE: | Black alligator man – Gil Sandler – he received a super shoulder saver wetsuit hanger Blue bunny boy – Leroy Pryor – he received a magnetic slate Smiley egg face Emmerton – Keith received an otter dry box The egg relay consisted of carrying a raw egg from one end of the pool to the other and handing it off to your partner to do the same with the help of one chopstick. The teams did very well and hope they had a challenge. Sarah slightly cracked her egg, I think she said she was becoming frustrated. Tim said she was all over the pool chasing that egg with her chopsticks. THE WINNERS OF THE EGG RELAY WERE: Keith and Gil – they both received a large ceramic DAN coffee mug We all enjoyed a wonderful potluck dinner with a wide variety of dishes. We never seem to go hungry at these events. |
| THE WASHINGTON REPORT: |
| Sarah & Leroy went to Washington over Spring break to visit his brother and do some diving. They checked out some dive sites for us and brought back some information. We will be going over the maps and flyers that they brought back and bring some more information to the table at the May meeting. We had some discussion as to when everyone wanted to go diving up there and we put up a tentative date of August 9 – 16, but that is not set in stone. There are three dive parks that are relatively close together and they are all beach accessible. And there are both RV campgrounds and motels close to them. And we would be pretty close to the airport for anyone that wanted to fly up there instead of drive. It is about 714 miles to drive to our dive destination from Yuba City. |
| NEXT DIVE WEEKEND: |
| April 12 & 13 at Albion campground. There will be Abalone diving in the morning and scuba dives afterwards. We will have an Abalone dinner on Saturday night; so bring something for the potluck dinner. |
| ATTENTION – NEWS FLASH – MEETING NIGHT AND TIMES HAVE CHANGED!!!! |
| We are restructuring our dive club meetings. The following schedule is how we have set it up. The dive club meeting will be the second Wednesday of every month starting in May. The barbeque will be fired up at 6:00pm with the standard potluck dinner. The business meeting will start at 7:00pm. There will be a different educational mini-seminar every month starting at 7:30pm. We had a long discussion at the April meeting trying to brain storm some ideas on how to make the meetings more accommodating for club members with families, job obligations, meeting night conflicts, length of time that the meetings run. And trying to get other present dive club members interested in coming to the meetings, activities and dive weekends. Therefore, we have come up with some options for you to select from. We will be implementing other ideas as time goes on. There were some wonderful ideas brought up at this meeting. We appreciated all of the come back. The barbeque will be fired up at 6:00pm so if you want to eat dinner and enjoy the potluck you can show up at 6:00pm which is usually when everyone eats dinner. If you have children, you could bring them with you and feed them there. The meeting will start at 7:00pm and last until 7:30pm so anyone wanting to leave after the meeting can still get home early enough especially if you have children with homework or early bedtime hours or because of getting up for work early the next morning. And it still leaves you the option of staying later for the mini-seminar if you can. The seminars will last 20 to 30 minutes. Then there will be time for open visiting afterwards to sit around and chit chat for however long you want. I will also be sending out postcards about a week before the meeting to remind you of the meeting and let you know what the mini-seminar will be about. So, be sure to read those postcards or you will miss out on updated information. |
